My First PG 13 Movie
I was helping my dad clean up some old boxes. I saw this beautiful VHS cover that held my attention. The man was so beautiful nestling his chin on a woman's neck her eyes looked pensive. It was easily the most beautiful movie cover I had ever seen.
"What's this?" I asked my dad.
He laughed and snatched it away. "That's PG13, you can't watch that." He turns to my mom and whispers, "We have to find a good place to hide this."
But my dad didn't know what he started. I was already putting myself in my parental units shoes. If I was an overprotective parent, where would I hide this? I should mention I was 12 years old at time.
I took every opportunity to look for it, even as mom put me to do chores I would find time to look through our towels while putting a fresh towel away. I would look through our cabinets and behind bottles. It took me several days but it was near where my dad liked to store his machete. Success.
My parents were usually home, they were only gone for an hour at the same day. My dad worked in the day and my mom worked at night. I came home at around 2 pm from school so it left me around 30 minutes to watch the movie. I ran home to where I hid it and rewinded the tape.
I can't really describe what it felt like to be watching a movie forbidden by my parents but sense of urgency only heightened it. The music was beautiful, the video, and the dresses, and style it was all breathtaking. It was of course, Titanic.
"Draw me like one of your french girls"
I touched my chest area. "Umph, why don't I have those?"
"Put your hands on me, Jack".
I have to be honest. I did not know what she meant by this at first.
I was so traumatized. It took a week to watch the entire thing. But it was a forbidden movie for me so I told all my friends I was secretly watching it. It became more a joke than anything much to my disappointment. All of my friends (not even the ones with strict families) had seen it. So it was hilarious to them that my juicy secret was this naughty film that I was not allowed to watch.
