Thread on Conflating Sex Trafficking with Domestic Violence
This is a domestic violence shelter near where I live. On their human trafficking page, they list prostitution and put “trafficking” next to it. This is a systematic problem. People are being trained to see these issues in very criminalized and stigmatized ways.
Sex trafficking [anti-sex work] organizations are teaching the feds, and police that domestic violence = sex trafficking. I did a twitter thread on why I’m uncomfortable with this. I also did a video explaining in more detail where it comes from and my own personal experience with this. I had both the FBI and police tell me I was being trafficked, and they did nothing. It made my situation more stressful and scary, because they weren’t doing anything except adding more stress onto me.
